Horsham is a market town in Sussex, which lies just 30 miles south of London and 18 miles north-west of Brighton, it has a population of over 50,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative and market hub for the Horsham District Council area. Although widely relying on its status as a local market town, Horsham has also benefited from its location atop a large reserve of the famous Wealden clay. This clay is still used today at the Warnham and Wealden Brickworks for the manufacture of bricks just two miles north of Horsham centre.

Horsham was a prominent brewery town right up until 2000 when the King and Barnes Brewery merged with Hall and Woodhouse of Dorset. Although brewing remains in the town on a small scale, today its main industries are insurance services, pharmaceuticals and technology. RSA insurance group are based in Horsham, as are the Swiss pharmaceutical company Ciba-Geigy who have their gastro-intestinal and respiratory research centres in the town. The RSPCA also has its national headquarters in Horsham. The area is very popular residentially and has been named the second best place to live in the UK.
