Bicycle accidents

Cyclists are required to observe the Highway Code and other road rules just as are ordinary road users. Unfortunately, cyclists are vulnerable road users; according to the Department for Transport, in 2008 the number of cyclists involved in casualties in the UK was 16,297.

If you are a cyclist who was injured through the negligent actions of another road user, you may be able to claim compensation for your injury and/or the damage to your bicycle and equipment.

Similarly, in certain circumstances it may be possible for you to make a claim against the local authority or Highways Authority if the accident was caused by poorly maintained roads or other hazards.

We’ve set out some typical questions about when you can and cannot claim for compensation. Have a look at the menu on the right hand side or use the search function for more information.
