A finance solicitor is a solicitor who can advise a client of the law regarding financial matters. A finance solicitor does not advise on the merits of any financial activity but advises on its legal consequences for the client. For example, a finance solicitor should not advise clients on whether to buy or sell shares in a company, but can advise on how the buying or selling of shares will affect their voting rights in that company. Alternatively, an individual voluntary agreement (IVA) can be drawn up by a finance solicitor which structures repayments to creditors in a manageable way.
