What to know about UK law

It would be perfectly natural to believe that the law is the same across the whole of the United Kingdom. And in most instances you would be right –but not in all.

Of course, the UK was created over hundreds of years; the main pieces of legislation being the Act of Union 1707 to join the kingdoms of Scotland and England, and the Act of Union 1801 to unite the Kingdom of Ireland and the Kingdom of Great Britain. Since common law has grown in the UK over many hundreds of years, certain laws are different in different jurisdictions. Within these pages we hope to explain a few of those distinctions.
