Road accident statistics
Road accident statistics reveal that in the UK in 2008 there were 170,591 road accidents reported to the police involving personal injury. Common perception is that drivers and passengers of motor vehicles comprise the majority of road accident casualties. Road accident statistics show that car occupants were the largest group for all injuries, accounting for 68% of slight casualties and 49% of fatalities. However, road accident statistics also show that pedestrians accounted for over 20% of deaths and serious injuries, but only 11% of slight injuries. 20% of all fatalities were motorcycle users, but they only made up 8% of those slightly injured.*
Drivers owe a duty of care to all other drivers, passengers and pedestrians. Thus, if you have been injured as a passenger, a driver or a pedestrian, you may be able to claim compensation. If your injury was at least partly because of another driver’s negligent driving, you may be able to claim compensation.
If you are successful in making out a case for compensation, the amount of compensation awarded varies from claim to claim, even for similar injuries, depending on various factors. Your individual circumstances will be taken into account, and a specialist solicitor will be able to help you in your case.
