Let an immigration lawyer help your case

Immigration lawyers deal with visa applications, appeals and gaining nationality for clients who are entitled to become British citizens. Immigration lawyers regularly work on an incredibly wide range of issues and some complex areas of law. British nationality law in particular is the subject of much political debate, and as a result the law relating to nationality tends to fluctuate depending on the government of the time and public opinion.

Before applying for British citizenship on behalf of a client, immigration lawyers must first establish whether a person has British citizenship already. There are complicated rules which mean that someone born to British parents inside the UK will have a different type of citizenship to a person born to British parents outside the UK. The rules differ depending on the year a person was born, whether it was the mother or father who was British, whether the parents were married and so on. Furthermore, there are complex rules relating to people with different types of citizenship passing it to their children.

Immigration lawyers also deal with people with a right of abode in the UK, but without citizenship. A commonwealth citizen, such as a citizen of Jamaica, may have the right to live in the UK if they were born before a certain year, or married before a certain year. The nationality laws are complex and are becoming more stringent. If you wish to make any kind of application to stay in the UK, or an application to come to the UK, you will need the help of an immigration lawyer.
