Harassment lawyers

Harassment can occur in a variety of settings. Harassment generally refers to unwanted conduct that is demeaning or otherwise unacceptable to the recipient. It is often used interchangeably with bullying, but generally harassment encompasses conduct related to a person’s age, sex, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation, nationality or any other personal characteristic of that person. Bullying refers to conduct that is offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting which tends to undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure that person.

Employment is the common setting with which people generally associate harassment. It may occur between colleagues or between an employer and his or her superior. Harassment in the workplace could constitute unlawful discrimination in certain circumstances, or possibly a breach of contract. As with all forms of harassment, the conduct could also amount to a criminal offence. If you have experienced harassment in the workplace you should speak to a harassment lawyer as to the most appropriate course of action to take.

Harassment can also occur between neighbours. It is possible in this situation that you may be able to consider a civil injunction. An injunction can set out activities or behaviours which the person is not allowed to participate in, for example, approaching, intimidating or harassing you or members of your household.  Criminal action may also be possible for more serious cases of harassment.

Harassment may also occur between landlord and tenant. The Protection from Eviction Act 1977 may also provide some protection as may criminal law. You should speak to a harassment lawyer who is also familiar with landlord and tenancy law to determine which area of law the behaviour falls under.

Harassment can occur in numerous other settings. If you think that you have been harassed it is always a good idea to speak to a harassment lawyer and get their advice as to whether there is something you can or should do about it. Contact Law can help you in this regard.
