In 1998 the Scottish Parliament was created by the Scotland Act 1998. The Act gave the Scottish Parliament the power to legislate on certain non-reserved issues – it's own autonomy in particular areas of the law. However, the issue of employment law is a reserved issue and therefore still falls under the legislative jurisdiction of the UK Parliament at Westminster. This means Scotland is subject to the same employment law as the rest of the UK. The EU also adds to employment law in Scotland and there have been many changes in the last few years.
