Compensation for a hamstring injury

The hamstrings are the group of muscles and tendons at the back of the thigh and run from the bottom of the pelvis to the lower leg, just below the knee. They are used to extend the hip and they allow us to walk or run. Hamstrings also allow the knee to bend. Hamstring injuries are common, especially amongst athletes. They occur when the muscles are stretched too far. Hamstring injuries are usually a strain but, in the worst case scenarios, the muscles or tendons can tear.

Hamstring injuries require rest in to order to recover. Minor muscle pulls can take up to four weeks to heal, and severe tears can take up to six months to fully repair. Many hamstring injuries will require the use of crutches and mobility will be reduced. It can lead to a loss of earnings if the hamstring injury prevents a person from returning from work. This can be frustrating, especially if the injury was caused by an accident that was not the injured person’s fault.

If you have suffered a serious hamstring injury as a result of an accident that was not your fault, you may be entitled to compensation. Hamstring accidents may occur due to a lack of supervision or training in a gym or sporting activity. Personal trainers and sports coaches have a duty to ensure that you are free from unnecessary risk of injury. If an injury occurred through an accident that could have been prevented, you may have a personal injury claim. A personal injury claim can also be made if the injury resulted from the use of faulty or unsafe equipment.

Bear in mind that compensation claims are not designed to make you money, but to compensate for your loss. If the injury hasn’t resulted in significant loss, you will not receive significant compensation.

Contact Law can put you in touch with a personal injury solicitor who will assess your claim and establish if you are entitled to compensation.
